The Things Mother Should Have Told Me

If you're someone who tends to socialise with others who chat about music a lot, then perhaps you'll be able to relate to a certain sensation that I have decided to christen 'Having a Thorpisode' (also see footnote below).

My secret love...Country Music.

I enjoy Country Music as much as the next man here in Sussex, err, not much. Or at least I'd rather not openly admit to it. I like the classic stuff though, not into the Country Cross over of the last decade or so. I like the old stuff. Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Chet Atkins, Patsy Cline and Jim Reeves.

McCartney II Reissue Due for Release in June

We are very excited to report that Paul McCartney's 1980 classic LP McCartney II is to be reissued in super deluxe form this June.

Elvis Costello and his Wonderful Spectacles

"Would Elvis Costello become famous today? Simple answer is NO, not a hope in hell. Because

A - He's not pretty enough.
B - He has a distinct voice (not popular in todays market).

Poly Styrene Dies at 53

Marianne Elliot Said
July 3rd 1957- April 25th 2011

Poly Styrene was a punk amongst punks. A groundbreaking presence that left an unrepeatable mark on the musical landscape, she made history the moment she uttered, "Some people think little girls should be seen and not heard but I think oh bondage up yours!"

Separated at Birth?

Upon conducting a little bit of Gigseen related internet searching, I stumbled upon a remarkable likeness between comedian Russell Howard and the lead singers of both Incubus (Brandon Boyd) and Feeder (Grant Nicholas), and felt the need to share it.

B.A.D. Live at Coachella

For those of us who didn’t make the trek to the California desert last weekend for Coachella, the festival’s webcast was the next best thing. And for those who missed even that, thankfully the ever-dependable folks at The Audio Perv captured some of those streams —

Are Men Allowed to Like Glee? Hell Yes..

In the evenings I find myself in the TV room with the wife, she'll be watching some TV and I'll be sitting on the laptop, usually working. It's rare that TV pulls me away from the allure of the internet. But recently GLEE has made me close the lid on my Mac Book Pro and watch.

B-Boys Preview New LP With Sasquatch Help

Beastie Boys previewed the pretty fantastic video for the title single of their upcoming LP 'Make Some Noise' a few days ago - So I was somewhat miffed when within 24 hrs access to see it on a myriad of sites was restricted by hosts MTV.com to just the US only.

Justin Bieber...

Justin Bieber has been included on TIME Magazine's annual 100 most influential people list.

I can see why. He can't not be with millions of record sales, worldwide arena tours, his face on anything you can call merchandise and let's not forget 3D Bieber in the Cinema!

Roy Orbison Remembered

If Roy Orbison had lived, he would have turned 75 today. In a life that was marred by multiple major tragedies (death of his first wife in a motorcycle accident, death of two sons in a house fire), he managed to write and record some of the most beautiful and iconic songs of the rock era.

Gigseen is delighted to host Roy's Austin City Limits performance which you can watch free until we have our official launch soon, so please turn it up, sit back and enjoy!

Couldn't Sleep Last Night (Take 2)

Windows open, coolish breeze running through the room, it was the perfect temperature for a perfect nights sleep. What wasn't perfect was a scene from the popular comedy TV show scrubs running through my mind.

Under £5 CD's and the Value of Music

Sadly in order to maintain some focus on the High Street. HMV are trying to sell products far too cheap. But that's good for us isn't it?

Right now quality titles such as Imelda May are on sale for less than a fiver at HMV.

Profile: Steve Marriott

It was 20 years ago today that Small Faces/Humble Pie frontman Steve Marriott tragically died in a housefire at his home in Essex. While perhaps not quite as well-known, his influence on the last 45 years of popular music could certainly be considered to be in the same league as Sgt. Pepper and his friends.

A Piece Of Childhood Lost

We all have memories of music as a youth. In some cases these are still the most vivid memories that still exist. Sadly it seems that those dreams are well and truly gone..

Forgotten Heroes: Roger Nichols

In this modern era, where data is available at the click of a mouse it seems we have forgotten the thing that makes music so great, the people. Forgotten are those that help the artists make their album and pity the individual who assumes that the relationship between that of an engineer and the artist is just a technical one.

Kurt and The Curse of 27

Nirvana guitarist and singer Kurt Cobain took his own life 17 years ago, on April 5, 1994. His mother, Wendy O’Connor, famously said: “Now he's gone and joined that stupid club… I told him not to join that stupid club.”
