On The Radar 20/03/12

A selection of new tracks comprising this week's 'Staff Picks' from the Gigseen TV office ... New music featuring from Jagwar Ma, Plej, Youth Lagoon, and Lüger.

Jagwar Ma - What Love? (selected by Grim) - Jagwar Ma are Jono Ma and Gabriel Winterfield, hailing from Australia. What Love? is the flipside of their debut single Come Save Me, released by Blue Rider Music 27th February, available in limited vinyl and also via iTunes (link). As far as I can tell, that's the only release so far. But this has a wicked groove to it, so hopefully there'll be more to look forward to soon...

Plej - Thrill (selected by Matt) - Plej are brothers Arvid and Erik Niklasson from Gothenburg, Sweden who make soft electronic music. They released their debut album Electronic Music From The Swedish Leftcoast in 2002 on Exceptional records in London. Thrill is a really chilled out track with a hypnotic beat, weaving it's way through trip hop landscapes..

Cannons is a beautiful track taken from his debut album, The Year Of Hibernation, which details his most personal hopes and fears set to dreamy, lo-fi pop. In-between college, heartache and general late-teenage dilemmas, he recorded and released the album in September 2011 through Fat Possum Records, and it's right up my street; a frank and honest reflection of the wake of a breakup. See what you think...

Lüger - Swastika Sweetheart (selected by Grim) - Stretching the 'new music' remit a bit here perhaps just a little, as this is over a year old - but with such a fantastic video for a smashingly bonkers piece of 'Ibero-krautrock', I just could not resist...
