Profile: These Monsters

Four-piece, These Monsters, are familiar faces in the Leeds music scene. Having previously inhabited the Post Rock realm, complete with saxophones and full experimental vibe, the band have now hinted at a new direction.

These Monsters cite influences as diverse as Nirvana, Melvins, Queens Of The Stone Age and King Crimson, and after being on the scene for a few years now, the band have a good number of records under their belt, most notably, their debut album from 2010, Call Me Dragon. An interestingly dark affair featuring hefty riffs and powerhouse drumming, this album saw These Monsters gain real respect amongst the modern prog and psychedelia bands at the time. Take a listen below:

However, These Monsters have recently revealed a glimpse of what we can expect from their forthcoming, second full-length album, Heroic Dose (release date tbc). Live Some is the first single to be taken from the record and is a real indication of the band's change in sound - a heavier affair, especially regarding riffs, and if you think it sounds similar to Pulled Apart By Horses, you'd be right in thinking so; Heroic Dose was produced by James Kenosha, his credits include Dry The River, Chapel Club, Dinosaur Pile-Up, and of course, Pulled Apart By Horses. The single has also been championed by Radio One, getting daily airplays on shows across the station.

Live Some is set for release on the 4th of September, via Role Model Corporate; a pioneering group of musicians and artists in Leeds modelling the DIY ethos. The collective works as inspiration and support for all the artists involved - managing tours, producing artwork and providing a place to rehearse and record. Good for you, guys!
