On The Radar 12/06/12

Tuesday's weekly selection of new tunes and sessions comprising this week's 'Staff Picks' from the Gigseen TV office ... New music featured from Regina Spektor, King Charles, Maximo Park, and Band of Skulls remixed by UNKLE.

Regina Spektor - The Party (selected by Grim) - The New York songstress appeared recently on US show Good Morning America to run through The Party, a fine tune from her current album What We Saw from the Cheap Seats. Having just polished a off a tour supporting Tom Petty in the states, you can catch Spektor playing in the UK on the 2nd July at the Royal Albert Hall.

King Charles - The Brightest Lights [ft. Mumford & Sons] (selected by Kate) - The Brightest Lights features Folk/Bluegrass elements that are hinted at throughout his album (Loveblood), creating an anthemic, Country feel with the addition of a banjo, slide guitar, bagpipes, embellished vocals and a capella passages. A truly feel-good, foot-stomping track.

King Charles is on tour NOW:

  • June 12th - The Cellar, Southampton
  • June 13th - Louisiana, Bristol
  • June 14 - The Forum, Tunbridge Wells
  • June 15th - Clwb Ilfor Bach, Cardiff
  • June 17th - RubyLounge, Manchester

(plus many festivals across the UK & Europe over the summer)

Band of Skulls - Sweet Sour (UNKLE Remix) (selected by Grim) - Appearing on the Sunday (June 24th) at this year's Isle of Wight fesival, Band of Skulls have released this superb UNKLE remix of the title track single from their latest LP.

Maximo Park - Hips and Lips (selected by Kate) - The first single taken from their new album National Health (also out yesterday), Hips And Lips tells the story of a complicated relationship gone sour. It's a dramatic song with pounding drums and building tension, featuring the hook, "You're a puzzle to me, and you always will be". Sure to be lodged in your head for a while!
