On The Radar 26/06/12

Tuesday's weekly selection of new tunes and sessions comprising this week's 'Staff Picks' from the Gigseen TV office ... New music featured from Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Futures, Two Wounded Birds, and the Dub Pistols.

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Black Mold (selected by Grim) - The JSBX return this September with Meat And Bone, the band’s first new studio album in eight years, and from it comes this, the opening track - Black Mold.

Blues Explosion are just about to kick off the European leg of a major tour which almost gets to the UK, just not quite. The nearest venues are the first scheduled - the Liège Les Ardentes Festival, Belgium on July 7th and over the border in France on the 8th at the SJOCK Fest in Lille.

Futures - Start A Fire (selected by Matt) - My choice comes from the Futures second album The Karma Album released earlier this month. The quartet take influences from bands such as Jimmy Eat World and Death Cab For Cutie and have a knack for serving up catchy pop-infused alt rock tunes. Start A Fire is the first track from the new album and sets the tone brilliantly. The band embark on what looks like a busy couple of weeks in early July touring the UK..

Futures upcoming tour dates:

  • July 2 - 02 Academy Newcastle
  • July 3 - 02 ABC, Glasgow
  • July 5 - Arts Centre, Norwich
  • July 6 - Birmingham HMV Temple
  • July 7 - The Cockpit, Leeds
  • July 8 - Manchester Club Academy
  • July 10 - London XOYO
  • July 11 - Haunt, Brighton
  • July 12 - Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth
  • July 13 - 02 Academy, Oxford

Dub Pistols - Mucky Weekend (selected by Grim) - Dub Pistols are back with the video for their new single Mucky Weekend, taken from their fifth studio album Worshipping The Dollar. The track is released on June 25.

Dub Pistols Tour Dates:

  • June 19th to July 1st - Blissfields Festival
  • July 6th - Concorde 2, Brighton
  • July 7th - Lounge on the Farm, Canterbury
  • + Many further dates from August onwards

Two Wounded Birds - Together Forever (selected by Kate) - 'Together Forever' is taken from Two Wounded Birds' debut full-length selt-titled album. The quartet play a surf-tinged blend of classic Rock n' Roll, melding influences as disparate as the raw punk of the Ramones and the subtle songcraft of The Zombies. Their album was released this week, and if you like what you hear, you can catch the band live at the following dates:
